Director of Communications

Gary United Methodist Church, a dynamic, 800-member historic congregation in suburban Chicago, has an opportunity for a communications professional to lead the internal and external communications of the church. This key role directs and oversees all aspects of communication strategy, planning and execution and works collaboratively with church members, committees, staff and church leaders to ensure communications are consistent, coherent and effective. Responsibilities include oversight of Print and Electronic Communication Coordinators. This position is approximately 24 hours/week and reports directly to the Senior Pastor.
The qualified candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills as evidenced by a combination of professional and educational experience; as well as a familiarity with and ability to navigate social media platforms. The ability to work collegially and maneuver through a variety of communication channels, styles and situations will be important to success in this role. Empathic belief in, and understanding of, the mission of Gary United Methodist Church is a necessary fundamental to this role.
